Oakhurst... Commercial Center of the Central Sierras

Oakhurst is the bustling, growing commercial center of this section of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Though unincorporated, it is the size of a small city and growing steadily.

The activity centers around the intersection of Highways 41 and 49. There you will find two major shopping centers, many of the recognizable chain and fast food restaurants, a bowling center, several motels, hotels and several fine dining restaurants. Three regional hospital organizations have satellite facilities in Oakhurst.

Oakhurst is fifteen miles from the southern, Highway 41, entrance to Yosemite National Park and only a few miles from Bass Lake. Many visitors to the area base themselves in Oakhurst hotels and make day trips into the surrounding mountains.

Oakhurst (originally named Fresno Flats) was a lumber mill town depending upon the logging trade until the early 60's then more and more residents started calling it home as the timber industry declined. The mill was replaced with a shopping center.

Despite the bustle, Oakhurst offers a rural atmosphere with the conveniences of shopping and a good mix of services.

As the commercial center of the area, there are numerous real estate opportunities featuring scenic views not too far removed from all those amenities.

The Fresno River runs through the center of Oakhurst. It is small but mighty in the winter time and a great source of fun for the kids to fish and play in. Walkways have been built along several miles of the river for all to enjoy the wildlife and fauna.

Fresno Flats Historical Park on Road 427 holds a substantial collection of homes, schools, wagons and stage coaches used in the Oakhurst area in the early days. It is a must-see for your visit.
