North Fork..."Exact Center of California"

North Fork
is an unincorporated mountain village located in Eastern Madera County about 17 miles from Oakhurst and six miles from Bass Lake. Visitors are offered the opportunity to explore this former logging town, visit the Sierra Mono Indian Museum, home of one of the finest collections of Indian basketwork and artifacts anywhere on display and wander Main Street with its quaint early to mid 1900's flavor.

From antiques to delicious food, shopping in North Fork is a fun experience. It is one of those towns where you drop in and find true hospitality. You'll enjoy visiting the shops, talking with the locals, and discovering items not found in malls. You'll find antiques and crafts from our "old west" days, and if you want to go gold panning or camping you'll find supplies to take along with you. If you're driving your RV, stock up at our food stores - and restaurants, too. North Fork is the perfect stop before you take the Sierra Vista National Scenic Byway tour.

Nature lovers, and outdoor enthusiasts can meander along the Sierra Vista Scenic Byway and relax at uncrowded campgrounds in Yosemite's unknown neighbor, the Minarets in the Sierra National Forest. Only forty minutes from Yosemite National Park's southern entrance on Highway 41 and bordered by the Sierra National Forest this is a beautiful area that is still rugged and very rural.

The North Fork area is on the upswing back from a difficult time when the primary source of jobs, the lumber mill, closed. Because of this situation there are some very reasonable real estate prices, for both homes and land in the surrounding area. Each time we pass through North Fork we are reminded of the exceptional scenic opportunities and the unusually low prices.
